PA practice management software utilizes SQL Server clustered databases, with a standby server which automatically kicks in within 30 seconds in the event that the primary database server fails. In addition, all hard drives are mirrored, and powered by redundant power supplies. We also have multiple web servers which are set up in a redundant configuration. This insures against any single hardware point of failure which could take the system down.
In addition to the standard nightly data backup with offsite rotation, the database is backed up nightly to a separate reports server, to provide additional redundancy, and more efficient access to reports.
All of this, coupled with the quality of the data center where our servers are located translates into an extremely high degreee of availabilty.
Data Center
Our servers are collocated in an ISO Certifed data center that provides the best of breed fire suppression systems, 24/7 security systems and security breach alarms. Continuous power is assured by redundant Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs). The UPSs filter the power feed, compensating for surges, high-voltage spikes, switching transients, sags, electrical line noise, frequency variations and other conditions that might prevent the proper operation of our equipment. The UPS systems are in turn protected by diesel-powered generators.
100 percent Internet availability is guaranteed through an innovative Internet access service that provides fully redundant, direct access to the backbones of multiple Tier-1 Internet Service Providers. Lastly, our data center location features 24/7 systems management expertly administered by onsite personnel. All data is backed up nightly to tape drive, with off-site rotation. All of this means that our clients can rest assured that their sensitive data is in good hands.
In addition to all of these security precautions, we have also paid special attention to being in compliance with the various governmental regulations concerning the electronic transmission of healthcare data, notably,
HIPAA
